Royal opera house debut
This month, Mr. Smith makes his unexpected debut at the Royal Opera House, jumping in as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen. Operawire praised his performance of the role with Tulsa Opera, claiming: “Smith is a true tenor in a golden-age tradition with a powerful clarion sound blessed with a warm center and steely edge… he was undoubtedly an audience favorite.”
Mr. Smith commented:
"I am thrilled to make my Royal Opera House debut this month as I jump in to perform in Damiano Michieletto's production of Carmen. Singing Don Jose - one of my favorite roles - in a house where I saw so many great performances as a student is a dream come true. I look forward to working with conductor Emmanuel Villaume and Ramona Zaharia as Carmen to bring this opera to life for our London audiences."
On this occasion, under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume, Mr. Smith is joined by Ramona Zaharia in the title-role, Gemma Summerfield as Micaëla, Isabela Díaz as Frasquita, Gabrielė Kupšytė as Mercédès, Jamie Woollard as Zuniga and Andrii Kymach as Escamillo.
The show opens May 12th. Tickets and more information can be found here.
